Training to become a Community Health Education Resource Person (CHERP) is provided through the WVSOM Center for Rural and Community Health. Classes are held at various locations across West Virginia. No experience or health-related background is necessary to attend. The classes are open to participants 18 years of age or older and who have an 8th grade education. Participants will need to attend the required number of training hours and successfully pass the exam for each level. Currently, we are able to offer two levels: Level I - Wellness and Level II - Health Promotion. Additional levels are under development.
Participants must complete the previous level of training prior to moving to the next level of training. Upon successful completion of the training, each participant will receive a unique registry number and a certificate of completion. For ongoing research, we request each CHERP complete a monthly CHERP activity log either online or by hardcopy for at least three years.
For additional information about the CHERP Program or if you would like to host a training, please contact: Haylee Heinsberg by phone at 304-647-6574 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
